A hectic few day’s activities drew to a close in a very traditional way. The St Stephen’s Day Paurloff relays at the Playground area in St Annes saw a thrilling battle between the eventual winners Charlie Gunawardhana, Peter McHugh, Willow Agnew and Molly Kenny over gallant runners up Theo Duffy, Olivia Meikle, Clare O’Leary, Jake Daly and Jane Sevastopulo .
The Winners had held a steady but unconvincing lead over the chasers for virtually all of the race but when the whistle blew signalling the final 60 seconds had to be completed by the athletes in posession of the baton at that time, a sense of panic and opportunity set in. However despite Jake Daly’s best efforts, Willow Agnew held her nerve and the Winning Team survived. The Eugene O’Leary Trophy had found a new home.
