Our youngest club members had their chance to shine on Sunday 8th February in the NIA.

For many this was their first experience of competition and first visit to the arena. For others it was their chance to show their fellow juveniles the ropes of the new Spraoi Games.

Spraoi games have been running for a few years now and aim to introduce the younger athletes to competition in a fun environment. Team spirit, friendship and a sense of belonging are nurtured through team format.

Our U9s U10s and U11s each took part in one track event (60m or 300m) and one field event (long jump or turbo javelin) to earn points for their team.

And they did the club proud both on and off the track/field. Huge excitement and team spirit were shown cheering each other on.  Huge efforts were evident in all events, despite the nerves. The crowded stadium was treated to some highly entertaining races where our athletes reaped the rewards of keeping going right to the end. An extra reward for the U9s was a pep talk from the "guy from the telly' David Gillick.

Special mention to the parents who volunteered as officials for the day without whom the kids couldn't have this great opportunity from Dublin Athletics. And to the proud but exhausted juvenile coaches who did their best to match the kids energy levels for the day.

Quote of the day from our U9, Sean "That was so hard but it was so fun".
